237 MPD
Experiential, Environmental

In 2018, Google partnered with Huge and four leading architecture firms to design the first-ever Google-owned, Cloud building at 237 Moffett Park Drive, Sunnyvale.

Our brief was to transform the 20,000 sq ft main arterial corridor into an experience that showcases the historical significance of the site, the future potential of Google Cloud, and the enormous sustainability measures taken to achieve a net-zero building energy certification.

Over the course of 18 months (and one pandemic), Huge crafted five bespoke interventions that invoke awe in first-time visitors, without risking the ire of resident staff. Each intervention was designed to have several experience ‘layers,’ so that they essentially blossom whenever interest is expressed.

Connection to brand

Google's mission is to organize the world’s information and make it accessible. To connect visitors to that mission, guests are welcomed by sustainably sdfsdfsdfa sculptures that come together and reveal the Google Cloud logo, symbolically creating simplicity out of complexity like the cloud itself.

Connection to history

Paying homage to Silicon Vally’s past, we created a computing history timeline, exploding out the CDC 6600 Supercomputer that was originally used in this same building in the 60’s. Showcasing leaps in technology from the first computer to Google’s first search engine to inspire employees to build beyond possible.

Connection to sustainability

With hundreds of rooftop solar panels, 237 Moffett Park Drive is designed to generate more power than it uses. We tapped into live solar data to form a living light sculpture. It compares the building’s energy consumption to the energy it harvests from the sun.

Connection to community

The cafe is the most social location in the building. We created an interactive gallery wall that connects employees via QR codes to a cloud-based message board that sparks conversation and foster a sense of community.
